Instrumentation Engineer/Technician

Instrumentation engineer is a key support activity for our upcoming certification testing program for data collection, retrieval, and storage.  This position requires an engineer and/or technician to lead development, design, build and maintenance of Data Acquisition Systems for experimental aircraft and testing platforms.  This will require working with engineering teams for overall assessment of requirements, including parameter list and data storage processes.  Also, hands on support for Data Acquisition build and day-to-day data retrieval, storage and general system maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development, review and approval of parameter requirements for testing platforms with engineering
  • Data acquisition system architecture design and subsequent hands-on build
  • Formal documentation of data acquisition design, including engineering schematics and bill of materials
  • Develop and continued support of data retrieval and storage methods
  • Work with software team for long term data storage plans and process
  • Support telemetry system for active flight test program
  • Construction and ownership of parameter index list for each test platform
  • Potential to support data visualization tools (IADS)

  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Technical experience and/or education to support essential duties
  • Proficiency in electro-mechanical engineering and fundamental physics required
  • Understanding of sensing, measurement, and data acquisition techniques
  • Hands-on experience using required tools and techniques to facilitate building, deploying, and maintaining complex data acquisition systems and sub-systems
  • Requires excellent documentation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to creatively propose various possible solutions to problems
  • Clear communication with team members to aid in work planning and raise any blockers or needs

  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Formal applicable education, including a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Familiar with data acquisition software tools such as Labview or other
  • Team player that can work in a flexible way to support changing requirements and priorities

  • Ability to coordinate with aircraft maintenance teams and work in parallel with them for hands-on support of multiple data acquisition systems.  Possible evening and weekends, as dictated by testing schedule priorities.
