EWIS Engineer

We are changing aerospace. BETA is seeking a passionate, outside-the-box thinker who will design, implement, and improve assembly and installation processes for the Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS) for Alia.  You will work with a bright and motivated cross-functional team, and deliver turnkey solutions to enable aerospace production at a rate.  Your work will bring the highest safety, quality, and efficiency while reducing overall, long-term costs.  Your level of involvement will begin in the design phase of new programs all the way to stable, reliable production.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • 3+ years of professional experience building wiring harnesses and interconnects in Aerospace
  • Familiar with IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) and SAE AS50881 (Wiring, Aerospace Vehicle) or similar standards.
  • Knowledge of wire harness drawing standards and experience with 3D modeling software, preferably Catia
  • Strong foundation of problem-solving skills, statistical process control, design of experiments, and simulation techniques
  • Exceptional project management and leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally
  • Participate in periodic design and process reviews to ensure correct specifications and practices
  • Contribute to design, execution and analysis of acceptance testing at vendors and at Final Assembly
  • Experience in Harness design for Part 25 or Part 23 (preferred) aircraft including part selection and routing.
  • Familiarity with with the certification process of Harnesses for Part 25 or Part 23 (preferred)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment creating work instructions, leading a manufacturing team, and/or performing production and process planning and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of design for assembly, lean manufacturing, and capacity planning techniques
  • Exposure to rapid manufacturing growth and preferably startup experience
  • Design Responsibilities:

  • Design and review harnesses for a Part 23 aircraft
  • Design and review harness architectures including separation and segregation methods, including the development of segregation standards.
  • Understand certification requirements and assess and reduce certification risks in the overall process
  • Develop and conform to system requirements for EWIS
  • Prepare system documentation including, but not limited to, architectural drawings/documents, harness design reports, test report standards, compliance reports, etc.
  • Work with manufacturers to supply a conforming aircraft harness
  • Work with harness component vendors to supply custom wires and/or harness accessory components (custom clamps, sheathing, grommets, etc.)
  • Document construction standards and wiring practices for the manufactured harness
  • Assist in the development of 3D part configuration, management, and change processes
  • Responsible for project management and development of harnesses ready for flight test vehicles and certification.
  • Manufacturing Responsibilities:

  • Own all parts EWIS assembly and installation
  • Design assembly processes, tools, and equipment for wire harness assembly and installation that are efficient and maintainable
  • Understand certification requirements and assess and reduce certification risks in the overall process
  • Design assembly processes, tools, and equipment for wire harness assembly and installation that are efficient and maintainable
  • Select and collaborate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to optimize conditions of supply and conduct production equipment design reviews
  • Commission production processes and equipment through factory and site acceptance testing
  • Recommend and implement any changes for continuous improvement of ongoing production
  • Support make/buy/return on investment analyses as required, validating external component suppliers
  • Analyze production data to identify and improve processes causing inefficiencies in overall process performance
  • Plan sufficient capacity to meet business targets for production output
