Final Assembly Line Design - Manufacturing Engineering

BETA needs someone who has experience in part 23 or 25 aircraft final assembly line design and air structure design for manufacturing. Your work will be to lead the design and build of tooling, fixtures, jigs and automation for the components of BETA’s Alia aircraft Final Assembly Line. You will work with internal design and manufacturing teams as well as our vendors and contractors to bring Alia Final Assembly to life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing process creative creation
  • Fluent in CAD with experience in Catia
  • Rapidly and creatively concept, design, implement and iterate production tooling and techniques
  • Inform design teams on product iteration for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Select, collaborate and act as the primary point of contact with external vendors inside and outside the aerospace industry
  • Author and track vendor requirements and specifications
  • Create world-class scalable manufacturing processes
  • Own and drive a part of BETA’s manufacturing process from design through manufacturing ramp
  • Understand certification requirements and assess and reduce certification risks in the overall process
  • Select and collaborate with external vendors inside and outside aerospace industry
  • Orchestrate internal and external teams to meet schedule and design requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • All around good person and fun to work with 
  • 5-7 years of experience in mechanical design preferably for tooling of manual and automated processes in manufacturing 
  • Strong mechanical design skills 
  • A history of complex tooling design, implementation, and handoff to production
  • Experience with managing scopes of work from design through to production
  • A background in automation and design for automation 
  • A long history of CAD in Catia, 3Dx, SolidWorks, OnShape, or other like application
  • Comfortable with frequent change of direction, dynamic work environment, and a track record of performing under pressure 
  • Understanding of design for assembly, lean manufacturing, and capacity planning 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Part 23 professional experience in the design of high precision manufacturing tooling 
  • Exposure to rapid manufacturing growth and preferably startup experience 
  • A strong foundation of aerostructure design and problem-solving skills, statistical process control, and design of experiments 
  • Hands-on and practical understanding of state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques 
  • Strong mechatronics, controls, electrical and/or mechanical background
