The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the development of certified pilot inceptors for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft from concept through certification and production. The conforming design will build heavily on inceptors currently flying in the Alia proof of concept aircraft.
As the Senior Mechanical Engineer Tech Lead you will guide a small cross-functional team to rapidly develop, certify and produce conforming fly-by-wire pilot flight controls.
You will be expected to leverage past industry experience and supplement with new knowledge gained through research, experimentation, and collaboration as you design, build, validate and certify critical fly-by-wire inceptors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead cross-functional team to architect certified inceptors design ensuring all system requirements are met
Lead trade studies to inform a multidimensionally optimized design
Assist in requirements development
Lead mechanical design from a system level but also execute on the detailed inceptors design using CAD and FEA
Lead cross functional inceptors design reviews
Work closely with other departments to ensure conforming design is well optimized with adjacent systems and structures
Leverage industry experience to evaluate and select manufacturing processes that are scalable and meet company cost and schedule objectives
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering degrees with strong Mechanical Design focus from an accredited University
5-10 years of mechanical design experience in aerospace, 2 or more of which were spent in a tech lead capacity
Mastery of 3D CAD software (OnShape or Catia preferred) with experience in structural FEA (ANSYS Preferred)
Experience leading the design of certified electromechanical assemblies
Passion for the electrification of aviation
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Experience designing certified fly-by-wire pilot flight controls (HOTAS throttles and side-stick)
