Engineering Technician - Battery Systems

The Engineering Technician is responsible for hands on maintenance and improvement of the high
voltage energy storage system in a first-of-its-kind, fully electric aircraft. As an Engineering Technician
at Beta Technologies you will develop a deep understanding of our energy storage system design and
use that knowledge on a daily basis to support our ongoing flight test campaign with tasks such as
charging, testing and overhauling high voltage battery packs. As an open minded and outside-the-box
thinker you will perpetually strive to supplement your past industry experience with new knowledge
gained every day through research and experimentation. You will work with a small team to constantly
improve the safety and efficiency of our products, whether taking a lead role in repair work or using
CAD and access to a fully staffed machine shop to build new tools and ground support equipment. You
will be an integral part of flight testing and witness the birth of electric aviation firsthand. You will be
challenged every day and probably have a lot of fun.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hands-on assembly or repair of high voltage DC energy storage systems
  • Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of the energy storage system design and helping to constantly improve our inspection processes
  • Constantly improving our ground support equipment and processes with an emphasis on safety and efficiency
  • Performing battery charging tasks to prepare the aircraft for flight test missions
  • Providing general support to flight test operations of a novel electric aircraft
  • Performing regular inspection, cleaning, and servicing of energy storage interfaces on the aircraft, as well as the entire high voltage distribution system
  • Maintaining maintenance logs for all individual battery packs used in the aircraft
  • Using all mandated safety equipment and complying with all safety requirements in accordance with company and government regulations and guidelines
  • Traveling as needed to support flight operations between BTV and PBG as well as periodic support outside of the Northeast for up to 2 weeks at a time.
  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Two-year engineering degree or certificate from an accredited two (2) year college, university, or technical school preferred
  • Previous experience or knowledge of high voltage DC electrical systems and/or battery energy storage systems
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and driven to continually learn, develop and adapt
  • Ability to assist in problem analysis and independent decision making
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and schematics of battery/electronic components
  • Previous Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience preferred
  • Previous Python or similar programming experience preferred
  • Good team communication skills required
  • Google G -Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, slides, charts, hangouts; slack, application lifecycle

    require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.
