The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for driving the development of innovative electric aircraft systems from conception through assembly and then through test/validation. As a Sr. Airframe Design Engineer at Beta Technologies, you will work with a team to rapidly develop new technologies for our electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. You will be expected to leverage your past industry experience and supplement with new knowledge gained through research and experimentation as you design, build, and validate critical systems and structures throughout the aircraft.

You will have CAD modeling and structural, thermal, and CFD analysis tools at your disposal to help you ensure that your designs are meeting or exceeding all design, safety, and regulatory requirements. You will be challenged every day and probably have a lot of fun.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Design using CAD, managing all parts in detailed assemblies
  • Integration of different systems installed within the aircraft structure
  • Analyze systems to verify requirements are met
  • Good understanding of aircraft systems requirements and separation/segregation of
  • systems routing
  • Create drawings and manage BOMs
  • Follow Review and Change processes, and assist in process improvements
  • Develop and build prototypes and run experiments to inform future designs
  • Mentoring team members, and coordinating agile team goals and timelines
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews
  • Work with internal and external fabricators to see parts through manufacturing
  • Development of scalable manufacturing processes in parallel with product design
  • Minimum Qualifications we are seeking:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering degree with a strong Mechanical Design focus from an accredited University
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years experience in mechanical design, preferably in the Aerospace industry
  • Extensive knowledge of typical rotorcraft Fuselage structures and fixed-wing fuselage structures
  • Extensive knowledge of composite structures is a major asset
  • Mastery of 3D CAD software (Catia/ENOVIA preferred) 
  • Experience in most of the following areas of design and testing: Composites, Thermal Design, Structural Analysis, GD&T (Tolerancing)
  • Self-starter who is well organized, disciplined, team player, communication and leadership skills required
  • Google G -Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, slides, charts, hangouts; slack, application lifecycle
  • Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you:

  • Experience with various machine shop tools: lathe, mill, welder
  • Rapid prototyping or aircraft building experience
