At Beta Technologies, together we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
The Mechanical Engineer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team developing key components for BETA’s electric aircraft and supporting systems. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and analysis of flight-critical hardware. You will play a key role in the design, analysis, and test of enclosures used in flight-critical components (i.e. Flight Controllers, Health Monitoring Systems, and Battery Management Systems). You will also develop test fixtures and tooling for rotor-head component testing, and hardware for risk reduction and qualification testing.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
Design and develop mechanical enclosures for flight-critical electronic components used in electric aviation using CAD software
Generate drawings utilizing standard tolerancing (GD&T)
Review and comprehend internal design specifications
Communicate with internal design teams on mechanical and material requirements
Analyze dimensional and structural requirements
Utilize engineering knowledge with an emphasis on material properties, structural dynamics, and manufacturing methods
Create shrink-fit models for electronic circuit assemblies for enclosure sizing and mechanical integration
Understand in-house and external manufacturing methods, techniques, and capabilities
Determine machined part conformance using a coordinate measurement machine
Set up and operate environmental and electronic test stands and equipment
Generate test plans, conduct hardware qualification tests, and write qualification reports
Order parts, materials, and equipment as needed
Perform thermal analyses as needed
Use standard lab probing and troubleshooting test equipment
Minimum Qualifications we are seeking:
B.S. (M.S. desired) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
7+ years of experience in mechanical design of electronics enclosures or other aerospace components
Expert in use of CAD tools (CATIA preferred, or SolidWorks)
Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you:
Advanced Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, focusing on structural dynamics
Experience with multibody tools (Simscape or GRCAS)
Experience designing multi-dimensional vibration control systems
Experience with precise measurement tools, such as calipers and micrometers
Experience working within GIT version control or other configuration management practices
Pilot’s license or passion for aerospace and/or aviation
Flight test experience
