Embedded IoT Design Engineer

The Embedded IoT Design Engineer will work as part of the Charging  Team developing IoT-connected products in support of BETA’s electric aircraft. As an Embedded IoT Design Engineer you will be responsible to design,  develop, prototype, and maintain software for stable, reliable, and secure communication of remote devices with a cloud-based monitoring system.  Part of your time will be participating in industry working groups on safety, security,  and certification requirements to gather information and represent BETA’s position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, prototype, and develop embedded IoT systems.
  • Write embedded firmware  for communication with remote hardware. 
  • Develop communication strategies with remote hardware. 
  • Collaborate with BETA’s industrial design team and charging team on remote monitoring and communication needs. 
  • Develop communication methods for existing hardware. 
  • Participate in industry working groups on security and safety features of IoT communications. 

  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • B.S. (M.S. desired)  in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of experience in programming embedded systems & IoT hardware
  • Proficient in C and Python programming
  • Experience with wireless, RF, and 4G/5G communications for embedded systems
  • Experience programming, prototyping, and debugging new products
  • Experience working with IoT solutions hosted in AWS
  • Experience in PCB layout. 

  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Advanced Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, focusing on communication with IoT systems. 
  • Experience working within GIT Version control. 
  • Familiarity with different IP protocols.
  • Experience with OCPP and OCPI.
  • Familiarity with embedded software development in C.
  • Pilot’s license.
