Mechanical Design Engineer - Battery Modules

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for owning the development of high energy density battery modules from conception through assembly. As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Beta Technologies you will work in a small team environment to rapidly develop new technologies in the evolving world of eVTOL aircraft design. As an open minded and outside-the-box thinker you will perpetually strive to supplement your past industry experience with new knowledge gained every day through research and experimentation as you design next generation battery modules. You will utilize any necessary CAD modelling and analysis tools to ensure your designs are meeting the highest safety standards and exceeding all relevant regulatory requirements. You will be challenged every day and probably have a lot of fun.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design products using CAD, owning and managing all parts in detailed assemblies
  • Develop and build prototypes and run experiments to inform future designs
  • Create drawings and manage BOMs
  • Follow Review and Change processes, and assist in process improvements
  • Develop and build prototypes and run experiments to inform future designs
  • Work with internal and external fabricators to see parts through manufacturing
  • Development of scalable manufacturing processes in parallel with product design
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with both internal & external customers
  • High energy, self-motived, organized and detail-oriented

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering degree with strong Mechanical Design focus from an accredited University.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in hands-on mechanical design, with some background working on battery systems
  • Mastery of 3D CAD software (Catia preferred) with experience in FEA (ANSYS preferred)
  • Experience in most of the following areas of design and test: High Voltage Battery Packs, Composites, Thermal design, Structural Analysis, Shock and Vibe, Environmental sealing
  • Experience designing products for certification - FAA certification experience preferred
  • Self-starter that is well organized, disciplined, team player and well versed in the structural analysis.
  • Good team, communication and leadership skills required. 
  • Google G -Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, slides, charts, hangouts; slack, application lifecycle
