Embedded within the motors team, the motor manufacturing engineer will lead all aspects of motor manufacturing including in-house manufacturing process development and interfacing with external suppliers. The motor manufacturing engineer will work closely with the R&D motor design engineers and the manufacturing team to develop manufacturing processes to make the most badass electric motors to power our eVTOL aircraft.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with motor design engineers to define and optimize processes to yield high-quality parts for prototypes, flight test motors, and certifiable motors.
Identify external suppliers to support motor manufacturing for prototypes and production motors.
Develop internal capabilities to manufacture motors: such as laser & EDM cutting, tooth winding processes, resistance, laser, and EB welding, VPI, varnish dispensing, press and thermal fits, rotor balancing, and qualify those processes using laboratory analysis and material testing
Manage installation, qualification, and ramp-up of motor manufacturing equipment for R&D and assist plant manufacturing engineers in production scaling.
Work with the manufacturing team to optimize product flow and line efficiency
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Experience with tooth-wound motors, stators, vpi, winding equipment, insulation systems
Experience with laser & EDM cutting, resistance, laser and EB welding.
Degree in Engineering or 10+ years relevant experience
Strong hands-on experience with pilot manufacturing
Proven track record of data-driven methodology to solve complex problems
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to travel to suppliers, work in a very fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
