Beta Technologies is looking for an experienced Mass Properties (Weights) Engineer to join the team developing ALIA, an all-electric, vertical takeoff, electric aircraft (eVTOL). The ideal candidate is someone who has, above all, excellent collaborative skills. The ability to work with design teams, suppliers, and partners throughout the development of the aircraft and track the weight status of each commodity and ultimately the entire aircraft is essential.
This role will require developing the weight tracking tools throughout the development of ALIA as it progresses from a CAD model to certified vehicle. As the first parts are built the weight reports will be updated to reflect actual weights. The weight tracking tool must be able to forecast the aircrafts weight at entry into service, as well as any risks and opportunities to the overall weight. The Mass Properties Engineer will support and track weight savings opportunities and the mitigation of risks. A weight and balance tool must also be developed before the aircraft goes into service.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
Develop a weight tracking tool for each commodity, and ultimately the entire aircraft, including weight targets.
Track weight risks and opportunities for each commodity and stay on top of their progression. Also include a likelihood for each risk and opportunity.
Work with the design teams and suppliers to tabulate and track the weight status of each commodity on a routine basis.
Forecast the aircraft weight at entry into service.
Populate the design tools with weight data (Density, areal weight) and provide to the design and engineering teams.
Weight parts as they are built, compare with predicted weights, and update weight tracking tool with actual weights.
Develop weight and balance tools for the aircraft in service.
Weight completed aircraft.
Participate in design reviews
Minimum Qualifications we are seeking:
At least a Bachelor’s degree focused in Engineering.
Experience with Mass Properties for a development program, including the use of weight tracking tools for an aircraft from design to actual.
Experience weighing aircraft and aircraft components
Minimum of 5 years of aerospace experience in a mass properties role. Ideally 10+ years.
Enjoys coaching and teaching and has solid collaborative skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with both internal & external customers
High energy, self-motived, organized, and detail-oriented.
Proficient at learning new tools and new software, and ultimately creating weight tools and reports.
A passion for all that is aerospace.
Experience in product development and supporting certification is an asset.
